HTC U: HTC’s U-series is expected to get its third iteration in the coming months, and a new set of leaks provide some much-appreciated insight into the smartphone’s impressive new features. Besides adding to the specs list that has leaked over the past weeks, the new reports elucidate on the user interface of the upcoming device.
The first of these, called the Edge Sensors, are aimed at improving upon the functionalities of the HTC U’s 5.5-inch Edge display. Like the Samsung Galaxy S8, the smartphone’s Edge screen will pack in some crucial features that will make it much more user-friendly. The functions can be drawn up and completed by touching and squeezing the sides of the device even while the device is in sleep mode. There will be differently assigned functions for both long and short presses, and users can choose from three levels of pressure settings to ensure against accidental activation- a problem commonly experienced with Edge screens.
Moving on to the camera features, the HTC U’s 16MP+12MP optics will be further enhanced with the help of advanced HDR settings for marked improvements in the photography department. Alongside these, the HTC U will also focus on audio optimization with in-ear improvements based on an adaptive USonic technology. There will also be dual speakers for delivering a better stereo sound experience for the user.
HTC had announced three new smartphones earlier this year including a premium device powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, which they planned to launch within the first quarter of 2017. But the worldwide shortage of the chipset forced the final offering in the series, said to be the HTC U, to be pushed back to sometime later in the year. So we still do not know when the company wishes to roll out the device.
However, the recent leaks hint that a launch is perhaps not too far away. We also get to see the features and specs that we were already aware of in more detail. For instance, the HTC U’s QHD display will come with a Gorilla Glass 5 protection, while there will also be a 6GB/128GB variant alongside the 4GB/64GB model. The device, powered by the SD 835 chipset and running Android 7.1 Nougat, will be backed by a 3,000mAh battery. We thank AndroidHeadlines for getting their hands on this exclusive information.
It is widely rumored that the HTC U smartphone will come out by May this year. Without a doubt, the smartphone will be the highest tier device in the U-series and be the flagship that we have all been waiting for.
