Chetan Bhagat’s sixth novel, half Girlfriend might not have gained critical appreciation but the upcoming movie of the same name may turn out to to be engaging for the viewers. The movie which stars Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor in lead roles will open in theaters on May 19. Both the female and male protagonist of the book were basketball fanatics and it seems that Shraddha went through a rigorous training in order to sport a badass basketball player on celluloid.

Shraddha was thoroughly trained in basketball by some of the NBA coaches (National Basketball Association) and invested a lot of hard work in learning basketball. Mohit Suri stated that it was tougher for Shraddha to fit into the role than Arjun and also highlighted that she didn’t take much time to learn the sport as he mentioned: “Shraddha would train for hours on end every day for over a month.”Mohit further added“While Arjun is a basketball pro, Shraddha was supposed to play a university girl, who is damn good at it. It was important for her to get the basics right. She is a quick learner and also receptive to feedback. ”
Suri also said that the Delhi University girls who were a part of the basketball team would end up playing matches when the shoot was not. A lot of inputs were put in order to train Shraddha as International coaches from the US came down to train the actress and even some of Shraddha’s teammates in the film are a part of DU’s basketball squad.
Half Girlfriend has been majorly shot in Cape Town, New York City, Delhi and Bihar and the production of the movie kick-started from March 2016. Produced under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures, Half girlfriend also stars Seema Biswas, Rhea Chakraborty and Vikrant Massey in pivotal roles.
