The Aviation Ministry has waived off the User Development Fee to a great extent making flights out of the Indira Gandhi International Airport quite cheap. They have been reduced to Rs 10 for domestic flights and Rs 45 for International flights.
The User Development Fee had earlier increased to Rs 1,131(excluding taxes) for domestic and international flights. The Aviation Ministry has also reduced the landing and parking charges at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for airlines. The new tariff would allow a person, traveling with a return ticket from Delhi to London or New York City and back, to pay a User Development Fee of just around Rs 53, making the flight cheaper by almost Rs 2,380. A person, with a return ticket from Delhi to Mumbai and back, would have to pay a User Development Fee of only about Rs 12, making the trip cheaper by almost Rs 1,056. The savings would multiply for a person traveling in a group with family or friends.
It has been told that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has still to decide whether the travelers who paid the old User Development Fee for travel after July 3 would get a refund in their travel or that the amount that was paid for by the travelers would go to the IGI Airport for adjustment from future revenue requirements. This lowered fee in the User Development Fee was a part of the 96% lower tariff order by the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in December 2015.
This second control period order by the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority to the Indira Gandhi International Airport was to be implemented from April 1, 2014, to March 31, 2019, the Delhi International Airport Pvt. Ltd. kept changing the first control period order till date by taking a legal recourse.
