Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premieres on November 18 and box office early tracking reveal the film will gross at least $75 million in its U.S. debut. Directed byDavid Yates, the‘Harry Potter‘ spinoff hopes to launch a new franchise for Warner Bros. which is set to get a total of five ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film.

Like the original Harry Potter films, Fantastic Beast too is based on a novel of the same name by J.K.Rowling. Rowling has also penned the screenplay of the upcoming film and is expected to pen the rest four too.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Ron Perlman and Jon Voight. Naturally, Warner Bros. is looking for a blockbuster debut and the looks of the early trackingreports, they are going to get it. As per The Hollywood Reporter, FantasticBeasts will make a $75 million debut at the US box office owing to the Thanksgiving week. Although pointing out that the film is “an untested property” some are slightly more cautious, suggesting the film has a chance to rake $70 million. The publication notes that“females of all ages are the most interested in seeing Fantastic Beasts.”

Still falling Short at the Box Office?

However, according to Forbes, $75 million “magic number is a surprisingly low”, because the number is lower thanthedebut weekends of all Harry Potter films, as you can see in the table below. The publication goes on mention the opening weekends of Summit’s Twilight Saga and Lionsgate’s Hunger Games movies that premiered in the same pre-Thanksgiving November weekend. Both films garnered more in the opening weekend that what is being predicted for, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Of course just becausethe previous series was a hit doesn’t guaranteethe spin-offs success. And of course, Fantastic Beasts isn’t bringing anything new to the table like the way Harry Potter did. The world of magic is less-unique than it once was. All these could be the reason behind the film falling short of attractingmore box office numbers.
