Riteish Deshmukh has quite surprisingly decided to come out of his sleazy genre (courtesy the infamous Masti Trilogy) and is reportedly portraying the role of an impulsive big-mouthed alcoholic, by the looks of the 1:42 second teaser released by Eros International, in his upcoming movie Banjo which also stars Nargis Fakhri opposite him. Directed by Ravi Jadhav and produced by Krishika Lulla , the film is set to hit theatres the 23rd of September 2016.
Is the film a potential box office earner?
Far from it.
But then will it appeal to the audience on an emotional level?
Even further from that.

For starters, Deshmukh is seen coming out of a man-hole covered with what can quite possibly be human excreta. The film is supposedly a musical drama, in which Riteish will play the character of a Banjo player while Nargis will portray the role of a DJ in the film. From the teaser, he looked far off from a musician and more like Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘Nandu ’ in 100 crore+ earner Happy New Year. And that wasn’t meant as a compliment.
Coming to Nargis Fakhri, in roundabout 40 seconds of her screen presence in the whole teaser, she is seen in almost every type of Maharashtrian outfit that can even exist and doesn’t look anything like a Disco Jockey. Her hotness quotient might be a topic of debate but pairing up with Deshmukh might be an addition to the many mistakes she has made in her short Bollywood tenure.
So what do we call a hero who is covered in man poop like Anil Kapoor in Nayak, fights like Salman Khan, repeatedly spoils his hair and face with red color, screams “Ganapati Bappa” like a drunken vigilante and calls himself a musician with a banjo hanging from his back?
We call him Insane. Funny part, he breaks a blade with his teeth, yes a blade, and uses it as a plectrum for his Banjo (Speculating ; as he is not seen actually playing it)
On an ending note, one must not forget to mention Abhishek Bachchan’s contribution to the trailer and the film. No he isn’t in the film cause it wouldn’t have made any sense then. But Junior Bachchan has actually taken a page out of his father’s book and taken up background narration. Is he good? Small heads up, it is actually quite nice just hearing his voice than watching him act. But there’s a definite screw up. He called Deshmukh’s character “ Banjo ki duniya ka Bachchan”.
Way to go spoiling your father’s name Junior.
