Diwali 2016: The festival of lights is almost here, and most of us are looking forward to burning crackers and having a good time with friends and family. But what happen when the crackers run out or you end up wearied out by all the high-energy celebrations? Why, of course, the party begins. And parties are by all means synonymous with cocktails.

#1 Vodka-Shikanji Cocktail for Diwali 2016: This drink is an automatic choice for any party, and we are sure many have already tried it out. Shikanji is a pretty simple drink to make: all one needs is lemons, sugar, black salt, jaljeera, and chilled water. Add a dash of your favourite vodka to this traditional cooler to get the party going. Some muddled mint leaves will instantly elevate the flavour.
#2 Imli-Vodka Cocktail for Diwali 2016: For this one, you need a good amount of tamarind pulp, and mix it in with water, sugar syrup, and lemon juice to form the base of the drink. Now take some of the mixture, add vodka, lime juice and ice in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Strain the drink into a glass whose rim has been coated with a little powdered sugar. You can adjust the levels to suit your requirements
#3 Cilantro Mojito for Diwali 2016: We know that most of us are used to mixing our mojitos with mint leaves, but perhaps it is time to ditch an old tradition and embrace something new in the spirit of the festival. Muddle some cilantro (coriander leaves) along with a little sugar syrup, throw in some lime wedges and pour in the white rum along with crushed ice to shake well. Ready a highball glass and then strain the liquid. Serve with fresh cilantro for garnish.
#4 Whisky with Cinnamon and Apple for Diwali 2016:While white spirits usually serve as the best base for cocktails, experimenting with the other types will certainly reward you. Feel free to follow your intuitions with this drink. Take your whisky of choice (a standard Indian one will do), add some apple juice, cinnamon powder, and sugar to a mixer and shake well. Strain into a glass filled half with some crushed ice. Add lemon wedges and serve.
#5 Tequila with Ginger Ale for Diwali 2016: No party is ever complete without tequila. We know the drink primarily as a shooter, but it also makes for great cocktails owing to its versatility. While shooting it down and chasing it with a wedge of lime certainly makes for a great way to socialise, you can try this recipe for those looking for a more laid-back way to have fun without giving up on the tequila. Coat the rim of a glass with lime and salt. Squeeze some limes into the glass, add the tequila, and fill it up with crushed ice and ginger ale to the top making sure the salt rimming stays intact. Serve.
