Action role-playing video game, Diablo 3 which is the third instalment of the Diablo franchise, developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment is making the headlines once more and players will get to live the Original Diablo experience once again, which turns 20 years old this December, as part of an annual event called The Darkening of Tristram, Blizzard announced earlier today at BlizzCon.

Diablo will hold its 20th Anniversary event for Diablo I sometime in January 2017.

In the game, players choose one of six character classes – Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor or Wizard (with the Crusader being unavailable unless the player has purchased the expansion pack, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls) – and are tasked with defeating the Lord of Terror, Diablo. This isn’t the first time there is being quite a stir with Diablo III as the game previously set a new record for fastest-selling PC game selling over 3.5 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release, and was the best-selling PC game of 2012, selling over 12 million copies during the year.  The expansion pack Diablo III: Reaper of Souls was released for the Windows and OS X editions of the game on March 25, 2014. For consoles, the expansion pack content was released as part of the Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition version. Th game, along with Reaper of Souls, 30 million copies across all platforms

The Darkening of Tristam will be presented in “retro vision,” a pixelated filter that makes Diablo 3 look more like a game from the mid-’90s, and with audio that is significantly low. When players walk through the retro version of Tristram, they’ll be restricted to eight directions of movement and see about 25 percent fewer frames of animation, giving the game an intentional stutter.Diablo 3 players who venture into the original Diablo’s Tristram will grant players some exclusive rewards, including portraits, sigils, banners and pets. The Darkening of Tristram will also feature some exclusive loot, notably Diablo 3’s first helmet slot legendary gem, the Soulstone from Diablo.

Along with the familiar faces and enemies, players should expect old-school items, the original Diablo’s Soulstone as a legendary gem. Whether equipping the Soulstone will produce the same results as in the original game remains to be seen.

Patch 2.4.3, The Darkening of Tristram, is a free add-on for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls on PC and The Ultimate Evil Edition on PS4 and Xbox One.

If you don’t already own the base Diablo 3 or the Reaper of Souls expansion for PC, PS4 or Xbox One, you can pick both up for $29.99 or your regional equivalent over on the Battle.net shop.
