Destiny 2 has finally received the reveal that we have been waiting for, and while it still leaves a lot to be desired, we can’t sayit isn’tfantastic.Destiny 2 has been rumored for a long time, and Activision nearly confirmed it during their February earnings call. But official word came in just days ago when the Destiny team made a minimalistic announcement with a poster featuring the new game’s logo. That and a teaser video later, Bungie has finally given us a great new cinematic trailer, replete with oodles of humor.
The new trailer features the three Vanguard leaders, Commander Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Cayde-6. But while the Commander delivers a great speech to inspire his troops to rise in arms against Ghaul, the terrifying leader of the Red Legion, Cayde-6 can barely remember his name- “something with a G,” he cries out in exasperation. He does manage to instill spirit in his doubting men finally, all with the mention of loot!
The story of Destiny 2goes like this: “Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee.” Players of the new game will “venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities.” The aim is to unite all of the remaining humanity, defeat Ghaul, and take back their home.
What we like about the trailer is how story-orientedit is, which gives us hope that the game will be firmly grounded in a great narrative instead of feeling disjointed like its predecessor. We do feel the absence of a gameplay demonstration, but Bungie has confirmed that fans will be given a good look at it via a live streamon May 18. There is news for PC owners as well, for Destiny 2is coming out on PC besides the Xbox One and the PS4. The game will be released on September 8, 2017, andthose who pre-order it will be privileged with an early beta access.
We hope to hear a lot more about Destiny 2 from publisher Activision at this year’s E3.
