With the success of the first season the leads, Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-Kyo, rose in prominence and got involved with other projects. As per reports, since Song Joong-ki is swamped with shooting for films like sequels of Battleship Island and Train To Busan, has put the production ofDescendants of the Sun season 2 onhiatus. But there has been reports suggesting the team behind the pan-Asia hit show is currently pulling a story together whereSong Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo will be married and living in domesticbliss – at least at the beginning.Hopes are, as soon as the actors are free from commitments elsewhere, they’ll begin with the production of the second instalment.

BesidesSong Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, Descendants of the Sun 2is likely to featureregular cast members – Jin Goo as Sergeant First Class Seo Dae-young and Kim Ji-won as First Lieutenant Yoon Myeong-Ju.

Descendants of the Sun production cost was a staggering $10.8 million. It is being speculated thatseason 2 will see more investment into the show which means better production quality and an expansive storyline. Despite having doubts regarding its profitability, thefirst season was hailed as a well-made drama because all episodes of the show were completely shot and edited before being aired. ButKim Won-Seok, the drama’s co-writer, begs to differ and thinks, some of the episodes could’ve been ‘fine tuned’ if the episodes were shot as they were being aired, as per local industry norm.

“I think there were many lacking parts in the script despite the time to make the quality show through pre-production. I think I could have paid more attention to the script such as emotional lines of the characters,” Kim said, stressing that he could’ve listened to feedback from the viewers.

With the success of the Descendants of the Sun, the craze over Korean melodramatic series that was in decline over recent years has been revived. Here a peek into the last scene of season 1’s finale.
