The host nation and favorite China has won the prestigious badminton championship Uber Cup while defeating South Korea in the final game. China was favorite to win this cup from the start, and thus the team has easily secured their third successive title in this Uber Cup 2016 by defeating South Korea 3-1 at Kunshan which is located at the eastern region of China.
China’s best player Li Xuerui missed the opening set of the first match, but she kept her spirit and come back later to register a win in the first singles match for China. The final was expected to be a thrilling encounter, and both the team played their level best to provide a competitive final for the audiences. China lost their first game of the tournament in the very first match of the final, when their combo of Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei lost the first game by wasting as much as two match points.
But, China came back strong and won the next three successive matches to become the crowned winner. Li Xuerui proved once again why she’s something special when it comes to playing badminton in the court at top level. The other Chinese players like Wang Shixian, Chen Qingchen and Tang Yuanting also played their part well, and contributed well in the final match of the tournament.

The veteran Li Xuerui is currently the highest ranked Chinese badminton player as per the world standings. She is certainly in the pole position when it comes to grab an Olympic ticket for the country. In a recent interview she said that she enjoyed playing with younger generation and they are superbly talented for sure. But she added that she still believes in her abilities, and confident of winning the gold medal at Rio Olympics 2016.
In the interview she quoted, “All we need to do is to beat our opponents on the court. It’s their business to fight for their improvement and we haven’t given up our hard work. It’s not the situation that they are making progress and we are slipping back. Everyone is making their effort. I think those young players have bigger room for improvement as they start from a very low level, while we have been on the top all the time and there is actually not much room for us to progress. So for us who are on the top, it is very difficult to climb higher. But anyway, I believe that we can do the best.”
In the men’s section Denmark won their first ever Thomas Cup championship by defeating Indonesia (3-2) in the final. Denmark team lost both the doubles matches but won all the singles matches to win the cup title.
