Australian Open 2017: Yuki Bhambri Starts Qualifying Campaign With Straight Set Win

Youn Indian Tennis Player Yuki Bhambri has had a positive start to the Australian Open 2017 Qualifying round campaign after emerging victorious in the second round of Qualifiers in the build-up to the first big Grand Slam tournament of the year. However, it was still a mixed day for the representatives of the subcontinent as Bhambri’s fellow Davi Cupper Saketh Myneni suffered defeat after a dismal performance on Wednesday owing to a foot injury he had encountered a few days prior to the match.

Ranked 534th in the World, Bhambri opened his campaign with yet another bang with aclean straight set 6-1, 6-4 win against 18-year-old American opponent Stefan Koslov who is ranked 116, much higher than the Indian. The young player from the subcontinent displayed a stellar display in Melbourne against his opponent and was instrumental from the baseline as well as in front of the net. Bhambri seemed highly motivated in his attempts to finish off rallies as well get point quicker and faster by approaching the net every now and then to finish off a particular piece of play winning20 out of the 28 net points in the match in which he broke his rival six times and lost his serve twice.

The Indian Tennis ace is scheduled to faceSerbian Pedja Krstin, who came from behind to beat Czech Republic’s Zdenek Konar 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the next game and keeping in mind that he only needs two more wins to qualify for the main draw, Indian Tennis enthusiasts are surely starting to get hopeful this time. However, things did not go well for Myneni as the Indian bowed out with a surprise 0-6, 2-6 defeat against Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk, ranked 189, four places above the Indian.
