Australian Open 2017: Yuki Bhambri Starts Qualifying Campaign With Straight Set Win

Youn Indian Tennis Player Yuki Bhambri has had a positive start to the Australian Open 2017 Qualifying round campaign after emerging victorious in the second round of Qualifiers in the build-up to the first big Grand Slam tournament of the year. However, it was still a mixed day for the representatives of the subcontinent as Bhambri’s fellow Davi Cupper Saketh Myneni suffered defeat after a dismal performance on Wednesday owing to a foot injury he had encountered a few days prior to the match.

Ranked 534th in the World, Bhambri opened his campaign with yet another bang with aclean straight set 6-1, 6-4 win against 18-year-old American opponent Stefan Koslov who is ranked 116, much higher than the Indian. The young player from the subcontinent displayed a stellar display in Melbourne against his opponent and was instrumental from the baseline as well as in front of the net. However, things did not go well for Myneni as the Indian bowed out with a surprise 0-6, 2-6 defeat against Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk, ranked 189, four places above the Indian.
