And the news is certainly going to make things much more difficult for the Aussies as we have already come across the news that Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the remaining Test match series.
Cricket Australia released a statement where they have revealed that there has not been any replacement sent to India as a replacement for Mitchell Starc. The board release reads, “At this stage, no replacement has been named for Starc, with Tasmania’s Jackson Bird the reserve fast bowler in the touring party.”
The reason that has been cited by the Australians is that Mitchell Starc has been diagnosed with a stress fracture. It is reported that the fast bowler has been complaining of some sort of uneasiness in his foot which when scanned has revealed stress fracture as the prime reason behind his uneasiness. This has eventually ruled him out of the rest of the test match which is definitely a big blow for the Australian side which lost the second India vs Australia test match in Bengaluru despite being in an advantageous position for the most part of the match.
Starc played a vital role in Australia’s triumph in the first Test match in Pune which the hosts lost by a huge margin of 333 runs. Starc scored 61 in the first innings when they were in a spot of bother while batting. With the red cherry in hand, he picked up the crucial wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli which provided the visitors the perfect momentum to get into the main stem of the Indian batting.
In the second test match also, Starc provided early breakthroughs. In the first innings, he picked up the wicket of Abhinav Mukund while in the second he picked up Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair in consecutive deliveries which eventually prevented India from posting a huge target for the Aussies to chase. In the third India vs Australia Test match which begins on March 16 at Ranchi, Australia might field Jackson Bird as the replacement for Mitchell Starc.
