Last week Asus announced that they are holding an official event called the Asus Zenvolution on 30th May, only a day before Computex 2016. While the company hasn’t informed which devices are gonna be unveiled or launched, but we wereprettysure the Zenfone 3 is imminent. But the company CEO Jerry Shen has officially announced that the most awaited smartphone Zenfone 3 is going to come out in June and will be targeting the mid-range market segment. By August,Zenfone 3 along withZenfone 3 Max and Zenfone 3 Deluxe will go on sale insix countries.
Jerry Shen further informed that the company’s growth has been flat in the second quarter compared to thatof last year. The company, for now, is really focused on dominating the mid-range market, but Shen revealed that Asus will also be releasing some phones priced betweenUS $260 to $307. In this segment Asus hopes to compete with the likes ofHuawei and Oppo who havedevices in thein the US $300 price segment in the China market.
It’s worth noting that Asus used to useIntel chipset in their smartphones but have only recently switchedto usingQualcomm chipsets. Many believe that the shift was due to Intel’s announcement that they’d stop making chipset for smartphone. But the truth is that Asus had started using Qualcomm chipset since September 2015 and that the switch was not a result of Intel’s decision.
But the Zenvolution banner still has Intel logo which means there’s still a possibility that the company may launch a phone featuringan Intel chipset. But some believe that the inclusion of of the logo may be because Intel chipset is used in some Asus PC related products, say for example the Zenbook.According to a report by Digitimes, 10 percent of the upcoming Zenfone 3 smartphone will be powered by MediaTek chipset while90 percent of the device will be powered bya Qualcomm chipset.
Its worth mentioning that Asus have had extreme sales in Southeast Asia, Brazil, Russia and Europe and therefore has been experiencing a 30% growth each year in their smartphone segment.
