Asus held apre-Computex 2016 ‘Zenvolution’ event at Humble House Taipei where the company unveiled their latest laptop theZenBook 3. The laptop is a Windows-OS based response to Apple’s Macbook.The event also saw the launch of and some other devices like the ZenFone 3 smartphone series, Transformer 3 Pro, Transformer 3, and Transformer Mini.
Starting with the highlight of the event, Asus Zenbook is supposed to be faster andthinner than the MacBook. So naturally the laptop features the world’s smallest fan at3mm. It bearsCorning Gorilla Glass 4 panel and has an 82% screen to body ratio. The battery promises to provide 9 hours of service and comes along with quick charging facility – charging up to60 percent in just 50 minutes. The laptop featuresa gold-backlit keyboard which is twice theessential travel of the MacBook.
The ZenBook 3available in Royal Blue, Quartz Grey, Rose Gold colours. It sports a12.5-inch display and is powered by theIntel Core i7 processor that comes coupled with16GB of RAM and 1TB PCIe x4 SSD. It’s pricedat $1,999. There’s another variant that runs onCore i5 and comes with 4GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. This one is priced at$999.
The laptopmeasures 11.9mm in thickness and weighs910 gm. MacBookweighs in at 920gmandis 13mm at its thickest point.
Transformer 3 Pro
TheAsus Transformer 3 Pro (T303) is alaptop-tablet hybridat 8.35mm dimension. It sports a12.6-inch (2880×1920 pixels) display and runs on Intel Core i7 processors. The device comes with 16GB of RAM, up to a 1TB SSD.Transformer 3 Pro features a13-megapixel rear camera andHarman Kardon audio with powerful dual speakers. Other features include Thunderbolt 3,full-size HDMI port andfull-size USB 3.0 port. For all other ports, the device hasa mobile hub accessory (Asus Universal Dock).
The hybrid comes along with astylus with 1,024 pressure levels,an external Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card, and a Bluetooth speaker accessory withquad speaker surround. Thelaptop-tablet hybrid costs $999 (which includes both the stylus as well as keyboard).
TheTransformer 3 (T305) features a12.6-inch (2880×1920 pixels) display with121 percent SRGB gamut andan 80 percent screen-to-body ratio. It runs onseventh generation Intel Core processors with up to 8GB of RAM and up to a 512GB SSD. The device features an excellent battery with 9-hour battery life. Like theTransformer 3 Pro, this too sportsHarman Kardon audio with powerful dual speakers and featuresa fingerprint reader andWindows Hello biometric authentication support. TheTransformer 3, measuring at6.9mm in thickness and weighing695gm, is priced at$799 along with the keyboard dock.
Asus call itsTransformer Mini (T102) the ‘world’s lightest 2-in-1 PC’. It features a10.1-inch display andbears an integrated kickstand that opens up to 170 degrees and comes with apatented strapless “Smart Hinge” design. Made ofmagnesium-aluminium alloy, the device weighs530gmwithout a keyboard and790gmwith the keyboard. It’s8.2mm thick and promises to provide 11 hours of battery life. Some of the other features that the Transformer Mini supports a fingerprint sensor and Windows Hello biometric authentication support.
It’s worth noting all these devices run on Windows operating system.
