But it is the fate of the iPad Air line of tablets that has come under serious scrutiny after some recent reports speculated that the company may decide against continuing with the device. Apple may have a number of other gadgets that loyalists swear by, but the iPad Air 3 has been a heavily anticipated device. Apple first introduced the iPad Air in 2013, with a second generation device following the year after. Now two years on, however, the company has let out no information about the rumoured Apple iPad Air 3, though earlier reports suggested a March 2017 release. While many rumours suggest that the iPad Air 3 will be announced in 2016 itself, the possibility seems to be highly unlikely at the moment. Moreover, it has come to light that the upcoming device in Apple’s famed tablet lineup will be a refreshed version of the iPad Pro which will be released in 2017. The new iPad Pro 2017, like 2015’s device, will retain the two different display variants (12.9-inch and 9.7-inch), but MacRumors reported in early August that the device may also come in a new, 10.5-inch intermediary variant. The upcoming iPad Pro will also reportedly run on the new A10X processor, making it somewhat apparent that the company has its focus locked on the iPad Pro lineup. All these leave us with the question: what does Apple have in store for the iPad Air? Mobile&Apps is of the opinion that Apple may have decided to ditch the iPad Air 3 altogether, considering that competition in the tablet market is cutthroat due to the emergence of the more convenient phablets. Additionally, the company has already announced the next generation iPad Pro, which may mean that presently Apple has no room to accommodate a new tablet into their already saturated itinerary. Meanwhile, rumours about the Apple iPad Air 3 continue to surface, which point at an upgraded processor running the device which may include a facial unlocking system and a smart connector technology similar to the iPad Pro. Techvicity reports that the device will be equipped with the A9X or the A10X processor and sport a 12 MP camera capable of taking videos at 4K resolutions.
