With the automobile industry spoiling people for choice on a daily basis, the pressure for coming up with unique and improved ideas to draw in consumers is on. Concept cars are all the rage in this competitive era and Alibaba Group’s new addition to the lot is a first-of-its-kind “internet-connected car”, which runs on an operating system solely intended for the automobile industry known as the “YunOS”.
The car called the “OS’Car RX5” has been developed in collaboration with SAIC Motor Corporation and can be scaled up later for mass production. It features a range of innovative aspects like an intelligent map and detachable action cameras which will record video footage of the journey and a 360-degree view of the interiors. They can also be used to take selfies that can be instantly shared via the connected device.
The Internet ID feature will help the smart car recognise the driver through connected devices. Furthermore, the car comes with a smart voice control feature through which it can take direct commands, thus creating a safer and overall more enjoyable driving experience. It also enables personalised internet services such as greetings, preferred music and destinations.
Jack Ma, the Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, is certain that the unique YunOS will transform the face of the automotive industry in the near future. It heralds the arrival of a new era in vehicular technology- “We feel proud and privileged to be playing a part in driving that change”, says Ma.
The car is currently available for sale for CNY 99,800 – CNY 186,800 (Rs. 10,07,240 – Rs. 18,85,295).
