Alfa Romeo Giulia Named Motor Trend Car Of The Year

3 min read

Alfa Romeo Giulia is perhaps a car that most Americans do not know about. And yet, the car managed to win one of the most prestigious awards in the auto world. It took Alfa Romeo 30 years to launch a sports car in that segment in the American markets and winning the award the year that it came out is a big win for Fiat Chrysler. While Alfa Romeo may still be trying to gain a foothold in the US markets, the folks down at MotorTrend saw the potential in the luxurious, sporty sedan and saw the raw power that its Italian engine holds.

The engine in the car is a 2 litre, turbocharged, four cylinder, all-aluminium engine that pushes out power equal to 280 horses and 280 lb-ft of torque. With a sub-6-second 0 to 60 mph, the car can reach a top speed of 149 mph according to Alfa Romeo. Giulia is made out of a fine balance of ultralight materials, like carbon fibre and aluminium, and high-strength composite materials. This combination makes the car lightweight and quick on its engine. While the base model of the car comes with a rear wheel drive, there is an option to upgrade that to an all-wheel drive system for a better control and grip on the car.

The design of the car is incredibly appealing to the eyes as well. With aerodynamic lines and a stance that looks sporty, Alfa Romeo Giulia is in the leagues with the 3 series and the A3. The design may come a little shy of the elegance of the C-class but Alfa Romeo has managed to achieve a perfect balance between elegance and luxury, and power and performance. Like the BMW comes with the M3 performance model for the 3 series, Alfa Romeo Giulia also comes with a performance model called the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, which has arrived to give a tough competition to the M3.
