Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016: Hamilton vs Rosberg
The fact that Lewis Hamilton still has the opportunity to win this year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix despite being in the second spot makes the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix all the more exciting. Nico Rosberg is sitting pretty at the top with 367 points. Only 12 points separate him from the second placed British driver Hamilton. And things are in favour of Rosberg as he needs only 13 points to claim the trophy. However, a win for Hamilton and finish beyond the top three will find the German driver losing out on the trophy. As it stands now, the odds are against Hamilton to win the award but in Formula 1 you never know. Anything can happen and Rosberg despite being in a favourable position might just lose out on the title.
In fact, Lewis Hamilton has been quoted saying that he will be giving best to win it. He said, “It’s not been a perfect season, and I’m faced with pretty impossible odds no matter what I do this weekend.I can’t and won’t give up. You never know what might happen — however unlikely it may seem.” Hamilton, plagued by reliability issued earlier this season, added, “I’ll be proud of myself and what I’ve achieved as long as I feel I’ve given my all and performed at my best. Whatever happens, I’m proud of everyone who’s been a part of the success we’ve shared over the past few years. I’m approaching this weekend the same as I do every race. I want to win, and I’ll give it everything to finish the season on a high.”
Nico Rosberg who is on the verge of emulating his father Keke who became the Formula 1 champion in 1982 looked excited yet calm while facing the media. He said, “In Brazil, after the race, I was joking that I would still be taking things one race at a time, but the more I think about it, the more that’s actually not as crazy as it sounds. I have to treat this like any other race. Nothing in this sport is easy, so this won’t be any different and I still have to go all out for a good result.” The German driver added, “I have great memories from winning at this track last year and it’s somewhere I’ve usually been strong in the past, so I have every reason to feel confident.”
