Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi vehemently opposed Karan Johar’s decision of becoming a parent through surrogacy instead of marrying. Karan Johar became a single parent to Roohi and Yash, a boy and a girl through surrogacy. Azmi sparked a controversy a day after Karan Johar tweeted about the twins by saying that Karan Johar resorted to the drama of surrogacy because he could not get a girl to marry.
As per Times of India, Abu Azmi also stated that Karan Joharcould have considered adoption as an alternative. Abu Azmi mocked Karan Johar’s identity. He commented that pairs are made by God and doubted whether God had made anyone for him. Abu Azmi also hinted about physical incapabilityor “illness.”

He stated that Karan Johar is old enough to marry and if he could not marry because of illness or any other problem, then he should be open about it. Azmi told the media that Karan Johar is mocking the poor. According to the Samajwadi Party leader, Karan Joharcould have adopted poor kids and make their life worth living instead of resorting to surrogacy.
Meanwhile, Women and Child Welfare Minister of MaharashtraPankaja Munde openly supportedKaran Johar’s decision by saying that Karan Johar has every right to be a parent. She said, ” He has done no wrong.”
Karan Johar tweeted on March 5th, 2017 about the twins and thanked the surrogate, Dr. Jatin Shah, and his friends for their love and support. The twins were born on 7th February to a surrogate mother at a hospital in Andheri. They were later shifted to Surya Mother and Child Hospital in SantaCruz. The babies are born premature and weighed around 1.5 kg each. Earlier actor Tusshar Kapoor also became a single father. Filmmaker Farah Khan, Kiran Rao congratulated Karan Johar.
