Great news for Indian cinema. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s blockbuster film “PK”, which was to become the highest grossing film of India upon its release in December 2014, is all set to hit theatres in Japan. The Amir and Hirani magic are now spreading its wings beyond the border of India. Nikkatsu has plans to release the film theatrically in autumn 2016 and is talks with the producers to make arrangement talent to visit Japan to support the release. In 2013, the Japanese distributor had released‘3 Idiots’ before, which was also directed by Hirani and starring Aamir Khan, which became the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan in last 15 years. So technically this is not the first time their hard work is recognised there. Toshihiko Tomita, vice president of Nikkatsu’s international department. “We also recognise that this same combination will surely accelerate the Indian films movement again here in Japan.”
The movie PK had also done a great business as it showed the society a mirror of utmost hypocrisy. PK was a satire on the ‘business’ related to God and its divinity in Indian life. The situation was explained through the eyes of an alien who got trapped in India where all his companions went back. It was easy to show through a mind that is not hypnotised with the ‘divine lecture and culture’ from different religious communities. Amir Khan played the role of the alien and just did a phenomenal job. The direction of Rajkumar Hirani was simple yet powerful.
PK was the highest grossing movies of 2014. It was also a surprise hit in China last year, grossing around $18m. No doubt, Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan are on the cloud nine right now. They are jubilant that their hard work is being recognised outside India and that too on such a huge scale. It is proved that the actor-director duo is very popular in China, and now they are all set to win the heart Japan.
