Business News Tech News TechnologyWhy Solar Companies Should Aim Their Services in Rajasthan? By Erric Ravi Posted on March 22, 2018 6 The land of rich heritage and culture, and the next IT hub of India, Rajasthan has added one more feather to its cap. The state with the maximum solar parks and 1318 MW of solar power already in use, will soon concur the solar industry is leaving behind all other states.Rajasthan shines brightly on the solar energy map of India with over 300-330 clear sunny days compared to the deserts of California, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. The major districts of the state such as Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur are the critical regions with best solar radiations. The state also has two major advantages which are crucial for the installation of solar panels in Rajasthan. These two advantages or resources are– high level of solar radiation (6-7 kWh/m2/day) – vast tracts of relatively flat, undeveloped land. The government in the state too is working on several schemes and plans to attract more solar companies in Rajasthan. In the year 2015-16 the state came at number one place in the country with over 1766 million unit power production in the field of solar power furter enhancing what we may call as ‘Rajasthan solar’. Not only these efforts are also being made for increasing the production of solar power in the form of solar panels installed on the rooftops. Rooftop SPV systems are being promoted systematically and another solar group of about 6 MW of Roof Top SVP systems is in the pipeline. Approx 1.50 lakh solar power residential units have been set up in rural and urban areas of the state. 13,943 Solar Pump sets have been installed all over the state. Ministry of New and Renewable sources of Energy, Government of India has sanctioned 3 Solar Parks – 2180 MW capacity in Village Bhadla of Jodhpur, 750 MW in Phalodi-Pokaran and 1500 MW Solar parks in Fatehgarh Phase I B in Jaisalmer district. It is estimated that solar parks of more than 500MW will be a joint venture between the state government and private company. A net metering scheme has been introduced too, to promote rooftop generation that allows consumers to collect the extra power back to the green. Apart from this, the state has taken several steps such as fast-tracking the process of approvals for mega large projects that are above 500MW and further determining its commitment towards solar energy.Nevertheless, the state has rich solar irradiation, availability of large tracts of land, both within and outside the solar park, as well as the proposed green energy corridors. Moreover, going forward, the state´s attractiveness is expected to improve further with the implementation of the Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) scheme, which will gradually improve the finances of discoms. With the current solar policy in Rajasthan a lot more work being done in the solar sector, the future of the Rajasthan solar is promising and bright.
