Yes, even Bigg Boss can teach you a thing or two about being a good human being. This season is a proof!

The 11th run of Bigg Boss has been pretty much like its previous seasons. The same volcanic outbursts of anger being displayed by contestants. Everything Bigg Boss is famous for is happening in this season as well. But along with that something we could have never expected from BB is also happening. In a first, we saw Salman Khan take a stand for the LGBT community on national TV. Bigg Boss 11 made us realise that how our society lacks sex education and people are unaware of methods of safe sex. For the first time, we saw audience not rooting for an ideal bahu, Hina Khan, and standing up for Arshi Khan, the alleged seductress of the house.

When Shilp and Hina explained Sapna how to use a condom

It was almost shocking to know that Sapna Chaudhary didn’t know the concept of a condom. She expressed her ignorance to Shilpa and Hina. The two ladies sat down with Sapna and explained the concept of safe sex to her. They explained how condoms are used. Well, the clip might not have made its way to the main episode but it became extremely popular on Voot. The incident made headlines all over bringing the topic of condoms and safe sex out in the open to be discussed.

When Salman schooled Jyoti Kumari about sexual orientation

Jyoti had commented on a fellow contestant that if he was gay how’d he have a child. Salman, very politely, on the following Weekend Ka Vaar episode, explained the concept of sexual orientation. He simply stated what different sexual orientations meant and left it there. The purpose of this action by the host was not to literally explain the concept but to humanise it.

Salman Khan comes out in support of Arshi and her choice of clothing

In the very second week, Salman was seen defending Arshi Khan. He reprimanded other contestants for making fun of her and shaming her for her choice of clothing. Reinstating that it is her life and she can wear whatever she wants to wear, Salman shut down all the contestants who took digs at Arshi’s clothing.

Say no to slut shaming

In fact, Arshi needs no Salman to stop her shamers. Arshi is being constantly subjected to slut-shaming by her co-contestants. Arshi tore up her shirt once while dancing for fun and it was made to seem like the crime of the century by others. When she had had enough of comments, she hit back at everyone slut-shaming her. She questioned Priyank Sharma that if he can wear just a towel in the house, can roam around in his shorts, be shirtless whenever he wants, then why is he pointing fingers at her. Across the nation, there must be many households where it is okay for men to sit and roam around just in a ganji while women have to be properly dressed at all times. Probably, this issue raised by Arshi might have struck a chord with the female viewers. Arshi’s views were backed by Vikas Gupta, who in order to defend Arshi had to get into a heated argument with good friend Priyank. The latter took offence and lashed out at Vikas that he only stepped out in shorts when he was about to take a bath. For other questions, he had no answer.

In another incident of a similar fashion, Arshi’s lingerie was lying on the bed. Many contestants took offence to it. Arshi could not explain better that it was just a piece of clothing and they should not make a big deal out of it. The number of women who get shamed for their visible bra strap must be wanting to applause for Arshi. It’s just a piece of clothing guys, not a nuclear bomb!

We have to thank Bigg Boss 11 for making such discussion points public. Even if one person in India sits down and thinks hard about their regressive stand, it is a job well done. Let us see what the remaining season holds for us. We hope more of such sensitive and taboo subjects are tackled in the remainder of the season.
