At least 19 people are reported to have been killed and scores injured in what appears to be a suicide bombing at Manchester Arena, police said.

Manchester Arena terror attack: At least 19 people were killed and over 50 injured in an explosion at a pop concert by US singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in United Kingdom in early hours of Tuesday. The attack is being treated as a terrorist incident, according reports. Prime Minister Narenedra Modi and his British counterpart Theresa May have condemned the attack. Greater Manchester Police said in a statement that so far 19 people have been confirmed dead with around 50 others injured. The blast also came two and half weeks ahead of an election in which PM May is predicted by opinion polls to win a large majority.

8:15 am: United States Department of Homeland Security says it is closely monitoring situation in Manchester, England after explosion.

8:10 am: British police carried out a controlled explosion near the Manchester Arena venue. There will be a controlled explosion in Cathedral Gardens shortly if you hearing anything don’t be concerned, police said on Twitter, referring to a small park opposite the concert venue. But a second tweet said that officers carrying out a precautionary controlled explosion in Cathedral Garden confirm that it was abandoned clothing, not a suspicious item.

8:05 am: British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservatives will suspend campaigning for a national election on June 8 after the terrorist attack. Opinion polls in recent days had shown May remained on track to win re-election, say reports.

7:58 am: PM Theresa May said the incident was being treated as a terrorist attack. If confirmed, it would be the deadliest militant assault on Britain since four British Muslims killed 52 people in suicide bombings on London’s transport system in July 2005.
