BMW Motorrad To Arrive in India in April; Made-in-India Units To Be Offered Soon

BMW Motorrad India will commence its India operations from April 14. The German superbike manufacturer has unveiled an official date for its India sojourn. The new range of bikes will be shipped to five major cities initially. Perhaps most importantly, BMW Motorrad will likely start supplying its premium motorcycles first. The new and much sought after BMW G 310 R is also expected to join the line-up by the end of this year.

A number of BMWs august and seasoned bikes are coming to Indian shores come April. These include the BMW S1000 RR, the S1000 R, R1200, the K1600as well as the R Nine T. The last of these is set to come first if sources can be trusted. These new motorcycles will first arrive as Completely Built Units (or CBUs). In the long run, it might be expected that BMW will locally assemble the bike range. However, BMW still has not disclosed any plans to locally manufacture any motorcycle.

Let’s talk specs and features. The BMW G 310 R Streetfighter first officially unveiled at the end of 2015, is yet to arrive on Indian shores. That being said, it has received stellar reviews in the overseas market. Manufactured in association with domestic auto giant TVS Motor Company at TVS’ Hosur facility, this new made-in-India motorcycle will also be sold via BMW Motorrad’s dealer network.

The naked BMW G 310 R Streetfighter uses a superb 313 cc liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine which can easily produce a peak power of 34 bhp while delivering 28 Nm of peak torque. The new Streetfighter is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. This slim monster will face competition from the likes of the all-new KTM 390 Duke, the Mahindra Mojo, and the very classy Benelli TNT 300. This is the first time that BMW has shown so much interest in the domestic market.
