The 2017 Volvo V40 and the V40 Cross Country were launched in India yesterday with much fanfare. The two versions come with top-of-the-line safety features including an industry-first pedestrian airbag feature, which comes standard. We had earlier reported on the model that was scheduled, at that time, to launch in India, and most of our statements about the new car’s specifications and features have been borne out by this launch. The V40 comes with the famous Thor’s Hammer headlamps which look distinctive and iconic. The car is priced upwards of Rs 25 lakhs.

2017 Volvo V40 Features and Design

Both the V40 and the V40 Cross Country come with a  2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost I4 diesel engine churning out 150bhp and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. In line with Volvo’s global renown as the safest carmaker in the world as well as the cleanest, Volvo was the first car brand to introduce DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter as a standard fixture across their ranges. The DPF reduces particle emission by at least 95% across the two pollutant spectrums of PM2.5 & PM10 and is a part of the Interior Air Quality System assurance. Gear shift paddles are provided. The new Volvo V40 and V40 CC now also come with the carmaker’s signature Thor’s Hammer headlights, which till now was offered only on flagship models the S90 sedan and the XC90 SUV.Also in line with the S90 and the XC90, the new waterfall design grille along with Volvo’s large Ironmark logo at the centre arrives for the first time in India. The rest of the car looks pretty seems to be pretty similar to the older version, first launched in 2013. New alloy wheels and tyres are provided as a facelift. Volvo has also worked upon the cabin, which now comes with three different leather trims for the V40 and five different leather trims for the V40 Cross Country including a dual-tone treatment. Other features include Power Operated front seats with driver’s memory, Personal Car Communicator with keyless entry & drive, Fixed panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth & USB enabled High-Performance audio system, Park assist pilot with front and rear Park Assist with parking camera.

2017 Volvo V40 Safety Features

No coverage of any Volvo product is complete without some light on the safety features therein. The Volvo v40 and the V40 CC are no exceptions. In a long list of features, the two cars have the world’s first Pedestrian Airbag, a Safety Cage, 2-stage front airbags with driver’s knee bag, pre-tensioners for front seats, Dynamic Stability & Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist with ABS, Side Impact Protection combined with Whiplash Protection. No wonder that the V40 has received 5 star Euro NCAP certification. The NCAP, or  New Car Assessment Program, is a measure of performance against safety.
