The new generation of the two German giants’ latest launches has taken the world by storm. While the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is yet to hit the global commercial market, the Audi Q3 has been in service since last year, after it received a makeover in 2015. Internationally, the two cars have dominated the compact SUV segments. But which of the two is a better buy? Well, we find out.
2017 Volkswagen Tiguan vs Audi Q3: Under The Hood
The engines from all German cars on offer have universally been splendid. The Tiguan’s engine lineup consists of five diesel and three petrol units. The 148hp 2.0-litre diesel engine is very popular and is said to have a good mileage of 58.9mpg or around 24 km/litre when driven in front-wheel drive form. The Audi Q3 has the same engine but is more fuel efficient at 61.4mpg or 26 km/litre. Thus, when it comes to city driving or short jaunts, the Audi Q3 is a better bet.
However, the performance junkie will find the Audi Q3 more to his or her liking. The Audi RS Q3 packs a 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol and takes a mere 4.4 seconds to reach a speed of 60 mph from a standstill. Not only that, but the Audi RS Q3 also sounds like a monster on steroids. Verdict: Buy the Audi Q3 if you prefer power over performance.
The new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan seats 7, an astounding feat it manages through clever usage of space available and increasing the chassis height. The Tiguan is also sportier compared to the Audi Q3. While the two cars used to share the same chassis previously, VW has made some remarkable improvements. The new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is more sophisticated, and the class shows in the way the interior is decorated. The seats are more comfortable as well.
For those users who ride for life and who consider a car as not merely a vehicle for transportation, the new Tiguan is the way to go. The seats are deeper, and there is more headspace as well. The Tiguan also absorbs outside vibrations better. With ErgoActive seats and optional electric lumbar support, we have nor hesitation in declaring that the Tiguan wins this round.
2017 Volkswagen Tiguan vs Audi Q3: Infotainment
The new Tiguan sports spectacular infotainment features. The front touchscreen display is also very attractive. The dashboard layout is well arranged. The top-of-the-line SEL and R-Line models have the great Active Info Display which has the customisable 12.3-inch TFT screen. The Audi Q3 boasts of the proprietary MMI infotainment system with 3D navigation, voice control, and Google Maps, all of which are in turn controlled by a larger screen. Some models also have a touch pad added. The infotainment battle is won by the VW Tiguan.
2017 Volkswagen Tiguan vs Audi Q3: Price and Verdict
The price of the two cars is also an important feature to consider before buying a car. The new 2017 VW Tiguan will boast of a price tag between $26,000 and $40,000. Also, the entry-level 2.0-litre diesel Tiguan, with standard options of 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, and a superbly constructed eight-inch infotainment system, will cost significantly less than a comparable Audi Q3. The latest version of the Q3, the 2017 Audi Q3, comes for an estimated $31,800 and $33,900. The verdict? Well, we feel the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan offers more bang for the buck, but the Audi Q3 is also an extremely versatile car. Read more about the 2017 VW Tiguan here.
