The popular Honda CR-V, in circulation since 1995 and built on the Honda Civic’splatform, is set to be upgraded for a fifth generation, to be known simply as the 2017 Honda CR-V. The name comes from the acronym of the words ‘Comfortable Runabout Vehicle’. The 2017 Honda CR-V will be amid-range utility vehicle, positioned between the smaller HR-V and the larger HondaPilot. The latest model adds some innovative features both inside and on the exterior.
2017 Honda CR-V Specs and Features
The four models in the 2017 Honda CR-V family are the LX, the EX, the EX-L and the Touring versions.The base trim, or the LX model, will be powered by an Earth Dreams 2.4-liter I-4 engine with 184 prancing horses while the other, more premium trims come equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 with 190 HP. The difference lies in the peak torque: despite similar power outputs, the turbocharged engine delivers peak torque at 2,000rpm-5,000rpm, making it a very mean machine indeed. Some sources suggest the RS variant to the lineup, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the Honda Civic Type R, may be launched sometime in the future. The car is a five-seatereating with a 1.6-inch-longer wheelbase and better space management, allowing more rear-seat legroom—2.1 inches more than the previous CR-V could provide, actually.The body of the 2017 Honda CR-V utilises56.5% high-strength steel, according to reports, making it sturdy and durable. The new model has18″ Alloy wheels.
The exterior has undergone a facelift. Brand-new front lights boast of a range of LEDs which can be combined to Automobile High Light beam and High Beam Assistance. The car is taller and has better ground clearance as well. The interiors are plush and pleasing aesthetically. The EX standard-equipment list includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, besides dual-zone climate control, a proximity key system with remote start, a power driver’s seat, superb heated front seats, push-button ignition, and a full panoramic sunroof. Other options included are power lift-gate, available only for EX-L models and above and active grille shutter system.
2017 Honda CR-V Safety Features
A long list of standard safety features such as forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning and automatic high-beam headlights are deployed on the vehicle. Like previous models, the ” Honda Sensing” package also boasts of all these features as well as a renewed Rear Cross Traffic Monitor for this new model. Such extensive safety featuressuggest that Honda will look to sell the 2017 CR-V in Europe as well.
2017 Honda CR-V Competition and Price
The 2017 Honda CR-V will go up against the likes of the Mazda CX-5, the Hyundai Tucson, the Ford Escape and the Jeep Cherokee. Rumours suggest the 2017 Honda CRV will launch in India and around the world by the end of this year. We expect the new car to be priced upwards of Rs. 25 lakhs in India and $ 24,945 internationally for the base trim excluding service taxes. The auto giant is not offering test rides at this moment either.
