With only 500 cars for the first two years, Ford frustrated many of its buyers. But now there is another chance to get the smile back to the face of the disappointed customers as Ford has promised to bring back the GT series in two years. Ford explained the third year of production would be sent to whose people who were on the waiting list in the initial application process.


Ford promises the fourth and final year will be for anyone who was denied initially or missed the first application window. The company will accept new applications too, and updated ones will be starting in early 2018. According to their counting, almost 6,006 applicants were rejected initially.

The American automaker confirmed the third year of production would most likely run through 2018. But for now, only 250 units of production planned per year. The Ford GT is powered by a 3.5-liter twin turbocharged Eco-Boost petrol V6 engine that develops 600bhp of power, and it continues to resemble the GT40 in many ways with its signature headlamps and tail lamps. The carbon-fibre tub and aluminum sub-frames and features a pushrod suspension setup and active aerodynamics to churn out maximum performance.

2017 Ford GT Updates Specs and Features

  • Specs and features: The Ford GT features an RMR layout, which is a Rear-Mid Engine-Rear-Wheel-Drive. The mid-engine design enables the car to have a low centre of gravity, leading to a more comfortable, better and safer ride. It is a 2-door coupe with dihedral doors or doors which swing open upwards. A low growl comes from the V6 twin-turbocharged 3.5 litre EcoBoost engine. The GT features a Combo-port Direct-Injection Fuel system, coupled with a dual clutch, seven-speed transaxle. The GT has no manual transmission and is available only as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle making it a racing car. A maximum speed of 200 mph is to be expected. Other features include windshields made of Corning Gorilla Glass Hybrid, thinner than laminated glass and weighing 30% less. The GT will thus be 12 pounds lighter and will aid better handling and improve fuel efficiency.
  • Latest high-tech LED rear-lights: Next-gen lights with a channel passing through the rear-lamps to vent hot air and aid aerodynamics. Human psychology is used to make the Crystal Diamond Light of the car which improves mood.
  • Colours and Competition: Frozen White, Shadow Black, Liquid Grey and variants like Liquid Blue, Liquid Red and Triple Yellow. The GT will go up against the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette Zora ZR 1, the Lamborghini Zuracan and the new generation Audi R8. We expect the supercar to be able to emulate its 60’s predecessors.

2017 Ford GT Date of Launch

Low-volume supercar, launching only around 250 cars per year. Roughly one car per day will be manufactured till 2020. Units sold for 2017-2018 will be reserved for selected buyers, 2019 for new buyers not considered previously and 2020 will be dedicated to that customer already passed over. The car is expected to be priced around $400,000.The war of the supercars has just begun.
