Three new and exciting colour options-Redditch Red, Redditch Green and Redditch Blue-will be on offer. The town of Redditch in north-east Worcestershire has a rich history of motorcycling and the townspeople are still proud of their heritage, especially the 50s-era Royal Enfield motorcycles that were manufactured there. While the internal workings of the engine will stay the same, the new bike will have significant differences in exterior design. The theme behind the three variations is four-fold: simplicity, harmony, proportion and finish. The variants will be powered by Royal Enfield’s 350cc unit construction engine (UCE), front & rear mudguards, a new and redesigned headlight casing, a teardrop fuel tank, oval tool box, exhaust fins, revamped speedometer dials, a single-seat spring saddle, snappy tail light assembly and the comeback of the headlamp cap. The President of Royal Enfield, Rudy Singh, was quoted here as stating that the Royal Enfield Redditch variants will sport the Royal Enfield Redditch monogram, first used in 1939 on the prototype of 125cc ‘Royal Baby’, which was a 2-stroke motorcycle much loved and later emulated. The new line is a tribute to the original series. All native motorcycles made in the UK after WW2 have an image which is classic in design and which has gained cult status in the years bygone. The Redditch plant stopped producing motorcycles in 1967, but its legacy remains untarnished even today.
