Samsung Galaxy S8: Samsung has undoubtedly suffered a huge setback due to the worldwide mishap triggered by the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Not only did the South Korean smartphone giant lose out on the considerable amount of business that their newest flagship could have potentially brought them, the goodwill that was built upon years of hard work was also subjected to annihilation. But Samsung is not about to give up despite the billions of dollars it has lost. The company has already launched a few new smartphones in its home country and is gearing up with another expected to launch internationally. However, all eyes are presently focused on the Samsung Galaxy S8, and Samsung is certainly not going to disappoint.

According to new reports, Samsung will walk along the lines established by Apple and Google and incorporate a virtual assistant in its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone. Moreover, there are hints that Samsung’s new assistant may be called Bixby. These speculations may not be a stretch, for Samsung was earlier known to have acquired Viv Labs, an AI startup that was founded by the creators of Siri. Compared to Siri, the Viv software is an open platform which allows external apps and services to work with the assistant. It is only a matter of time before we get to see the software incorporated in one of Samsung’s high-end flagship smartphones. But that’s not all there is to the information.

According to Android Headlines, Samsung has filed for a trademark in South Korea for something called “Bixby”, which, going by the application, is a “computer application software for smartphones, mobile telephones, portable computers and tablet computers, Namely, software used to operate voice recognition system”. Other snippets from the application reveal other specifics such as a “computer software for enabling hands-free use of a mobile phone through voice recognition” and “software for personal information management”, all of which point towards the possibility that Samsung is looking to integrate an assistant into its upcoming smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been at the centre of speculation ever since the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco took the world by storm. If reports are to be believed, the Galaxy S8 will truly hold the potential to bring the company back into the limelight for all the right reasons. The Galaxy S8 is rumoured to be launched sometime in February next year with a curved display, a 3GHz Exynos 8895 processor, and a superior dual camera unit at the back. Recent rumours state that Samsung may even go the edgeless route with the new Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone.
