For its third attempt, ASUS appears to be going for a circular display which is becoming a popular form factor for Android Wear. The images came via China’s telecom regulator, which published photos, taken during an inspection last week, seeming to show the device. While there was no information provided, the images reveal what could be the biggest change – namely the switch from a rectangular design to a rounded one. The company’s previous smart-watch offering resembled the Apple Watch in design, the follow up looks more akin to the Moto 360 range. There is no way to confirm these pictures show the device’s final design, they happen to match FCC filings from last week which also refer to a round design. The other materials shown in the photos seem similar to the ZenWatch 2’s, with a Rose Gold-looking finish on the trim. Leaked images of the watch shows a rather thick watch-case with 3 buttons on the right. Over at the back, it has 2 pins for charging which attaches to a circular dock that’s connected via USB. For personalisation, the watch bands are detachable and it seems that you’re able to swap them without using tools. There’s no info on the hardware but you can expect it to run on the latest Android Wear 2.0 that was announced at Google I/O. This would offer independent watch apps, improved fitness tracking, and better watch face customization. The device will reportedly sport Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz) and a stainless steel back which ships with a 5V 2A (10 watt) charger in the box, but the smart-watch sadly lacks mobile data connectivity. ASUS could be releasing its new smartwatch next month to complement its current ZenFone 3 smart-phone series. The Predecessor: Zenwatch 2 The ZenWatch 2 was an affordable installment with a sophisticated style that came in three color variants. Its square body with curved corners made it an elegant timepiece that can rock any of the luxurious and fashionable straps available for it. It came with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage as its predecessor’s, as per Wearable. Released in late September 2015, the Zenwatch 2 was one of the sought after budget smart-watches in the market with users on a budget opting for it over the more expensive Samsung and Apple versions. With the wearable priced at an affordable sub 10k price of around Rs 8999, it did quite well in the market considering Asus’s quirks in the build of the phone. From when will it be available and how much will it cost? Asus is joining the slew of companies that will be launching new products at IFA 2016 in Berlin. And during its presentation on Aug. 31, Asus is rumoured to publicly unveil its newest smartwatch, the ZenWatch 3. The new smartwatch from Asus will have an approximate price of around $199 to $229 post it’s release in Berlin later this month. Speculations aside this new wearable certainly sounds a whole lot more exciting than the wallet-friendly, but rather visually displeasing, ZenWatch 2 duo.
