The Government of India under one of its promising schemes Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana it has provided electricity to 108 villages across 10 States in the country on May 22, 2016. Out of total number 7,874 communities, the Ministry of Power could lit up in addition to few 108 more village dwellings. It includes 31 villages from Jharkhand, 26 belong to Odisha state, 26 from Assam, 8 from Madhya Pradesh, 6 belong to Arunachal Pradesh, 3 from Uttar Pradesh, 3 from Chattisgarh, 2 belonging to Rajasthan, 2 from Bihar and 1 from Himachal Pradesh.

According to Government official from Power Ministry,“108 villages have been electrified across the country during last week (from 16th to 22nd May 2016) under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).

Previously, on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an announcement of electrifying rest of 18,452 villages within 1000 days targeted to set up to May 1, 2018. Currently, the mission under DDUGJY has been put on the mode in a strategical way. Electrification consists of pressurising the implemented schedule to 12 months and divide the provided electricities into definite 12 stage milestone timeline to keep a check on monitoring procedures.

Apart from 10,578 villages, remaining 6,830 villages will be electrified through a grid, 2,932 village dwellings will be provided off-grid electricity due to geographical barriers outreach. Rest of 361 villages will be lightened up by State government, and fore lone 455 villages are uninhabited.
